((RP journal. Harlach's an original character; he's a fairly unimportant demon, on the order of a project implementation manager or a mid-level coordinator, responsible for Reception and Orientation of newcomers to Hell. His official title is Under-Sub-Duke of the Thirty-First Torment, which is why he rarely uses it.
The Hell which employs Harlach is an equal-opportunity venture set up by Samael on his departure from Heaven, providing services and employment to infernal beings from all religions, creeds and sects. The chief operating and chief executive offices are held jointly by the various iterations of the Devil--Ahriman, Asmodeus, Mephistopheles, Beelzebub, Samael himself, etcetera. The incumbent's term of office is a century, at the end of which the higher-up demons elect the next leader. Hell serves mortal souls from all religions, as well: it provides a very credible Tartarus, seventeen hot and cold subhells for those whose tastes venture that way, boiling pitch and acid pits, Boschian phantasmagoria, Sartresque ennui, anything the dead believe they deserve. Hell prides itself on its open-mindedness. Moreover, the demons who work there have excellent benefits, two weeks' holiday at the Lake Avernus spa per working year, and a comfortable working environment. They have a job to do, and they enjoy doing it.
Harlach dabbles in general annoyances as well as maintaining the intake and registration system: he was responsible for those wretched miniature spare tires that wreck one's alignment, the security seals along the edges of new DVD cases, and John Mayer. He's from the same world that gave rise to the rogue angel Haliel, who is currently dead and making a right nuisance of himself.))
